The charge of the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project (SNEP) included conducting “[a]n examination of the Mediated Settlement Agreement [U.S. Forest Service 1990]. This chapter is limited to addressing the last part of this charge: providing an assessment for scientifically-based management of sequoia groves, with some attention given to scientifically-based grove mapping. Also see Elliott-Fisk et al. (file "Section B. Giant Sequoia Groves: An Evaluation".)
Giant Sequoia Ecology and Management
Folder contains science-based materials regarding the natural history/ecology of the giant sequoia trees and grove management within the broader forested systems of the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. [This includes key references from the 1996 "Mitigation Settlement Agreement" (MSA) and reports sponsored under the "Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project" (SNEP).] Files also published by the National Park Service and USGS researchers based at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. Specific topics on environmental threats are contained in dedicated folders [fire, drought, disease/pests/pathogens, and climate change.]
